Leadership is one of the most discussed subjects in modern culture. Books, seminars, and conferences promise to teach the secrets of influence, organizational success, and personal achievement. While many of these resources offer valuable insights, they often approach leadership primarily as a set of techniques to master or strategies to implement.

The Bible presents a different perspective.

Throughout Scripture, leadership is not defined first by authority or accomplishment, but by character and faithfulness to God. The men and women God used throughout history were rarely chosen because they possessed exceptional natural ability. More often, they were individuals whose lives were shaped through obedience, humility, and dependence on God’s guidance.

Moses doubted his own ability to speak. David began as a shepherd boy in the fields. The apostles were ordinary men who had not received formal rabbinical training. Yet God used each of them in profound ways because their hearts were willing to follow Him.

These examples remind us that leadership in God’s kingdom does not begin with position. It begins with formation.

Before leaders influence others, they must first learn to live under the authority of God’s Word. This is why the opening chapters of this book focus on the importance of interpreting Scripture correctly through sound hermeneutics and exegesis. A leader who misunderstands Scripture will inevitably misdirect those who follow.

From there we explore the ordering of time and life according to God’s design. Leadership requires discipline in how we prioritize our responsibilities and steward the opportunities God places before us. When our lives become disordered, our leadership will eventually reflect that disorder.
